Benton Harbor, Mich. – Whirlpool Corporation is expanding its partnership with Habitat for Humanity® by partnering on 20 Women Build Projects across the country. At these 20 Habitat builds, crews of women will construct the home from foundation to completion. Whirlpool’s goal is to promote the involvement of women in the construction of Habitat for Humanity® houses. These builds foster a sense of empowerment and boost self esteem. They also allow women to develop new skill sets. "Women Builds offer women the opportunity to learn construction skills in a less intimidating environment. The camaraderie itself is empowering," said Linda Fuller, co-founder of Habitat for Humanity® International. "Volunteers bring us a step closer to Habitat’s goal of eliminating poverty housing, and women learn building and repair skills that help them manage their own households." "We are proud to be a part of the Women Build projects," says Paula Cacossa, Director of Customer Loyalty and Relationships at Whirlpool Corporation. "Part of Whirlpool’s mission is to provide support for women and families. We truly believe that providing women with the right tools will help make lives better. Whirlpool’s involvement with Habitat for Humanity® and the Women Build Projects fits that belief perfectly." Whirlpool Corporation is currently donating a Whirlpool brand range and refrigerator to every Habitat home built in the U.S. and Canada. In partnership with Habitat for Humanity® International, Whirlpool is working to choose 20 Women Build programs and to encourage other women to volunteer in their own community. In the U.S., 47.5 percent of Habitat for Humanity® houses are built with women head of households. By participating in the Women Build projects, the women homeowners receive training so they are better equipped to maintain their homes and are more confident in their abilities to deal with the day-to-day stresses of home ownership. A Whirlpool/Habitat for Humanity® Women Build house will be constructed at the International Builders Show in Dallas, TX, January 14-17. The team of volunteers will include Linda Fuller, women from nearly a dozen Whirlpool manufacturing facilities and the Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity® affiliate. These groups will come together to build the home outside Hall A of the Dallas Convention Center. It will then be moved to its permanent location. > back |
