Whirlpool demonstrates its commitment to community and society through its partnership with Habitat for Humanity. Whirlpool is the largest Cornerstone Partner of Habitat for Humanity. Whirlpool is not just a participant, nor just a partner. Whirlpool is the leader in the effort to build 100,000 houses from 2001 through 2005. Whirlpool is a cornerstone of this historic effort to end poverty housing worldwide.
Whirlpool's $25 million commitment consists of donating an Energy Star model refrigerator and freestanding range to every Habitat home built in North America through 2005.
- Beginning in 1999, Whirlpool Corporation partnered with Habitat for Humanity by donating a refrigerator and a range to every Habitat home built in North America during that year.
- In 2000, Whirlpool became the first Cornerstone Partner of Habitat for Humanity by donating $25 million in product through the More Than Houses campaign.
- Since 1999, Whirlpool has donated nearly 50,000 refrigerators and ranges to Habitat homes in North America
- In 2004, Whirlpool's partnership has expanded to include providing appliances to every Habitat home built throughout Europe.
- To date, Whirlpool donations account for over $21 million, nearly four-fifths of the $25 million commitment to Habitat for Humanity and most importantly helping to improve the lives of nearly 25,000 families.
Whirlpool appliance donations serve as the foundation of our partnership with Habitat but the Whirlpool partnership consists of much more. Since the partnership began, Whirlpool has:
- Sponsored and/or supported and helped build 24 Habitat homes in Whirlpool locations and an additional 33 Habitat houses throughout North America and 10 in South Africa,
- Had over 2,500 employees involved in building Habitat homes, and
- Matched employees' financial contributions to support Habitat or issued Foundation grants to Habitat to an amount of $541,233.
