July 31, 2001 – Benton Harbor, Mich. – Nineteen Whirlpool interns have agreed to commit 10 hours each to help complete the local Habitat for Humanity® project in Benton Harbor. The interns, who are students pursuing master of business administration (MBA) degrees, are working at Whirlpool for 12 weeks in partnership with the Global Management Development Program. "The work hours these interns commit to the project make up 30 percent of the hours that it takes to complete a Habitat for Humanity® house," says Glenn Averill, director of University Relations. "It's been a fantastic experience," says Jennifer Grady, an intern from Indiana University's Kelley School of Business, who is working in KitchenAid marketing. "It's been really neat to get a chance to learn how houses are built, and to work side-by-side with the future residents and other Whirlpool employees. Whirlpool's dedication to community service was definitely a major attraction for me. Very few companies encourage their employees to volunteer--it shows something about the company's culture, that Whirlpool wants to instill a sense of community among its employees, and pride in the cities in which it operates." > back |
