May 20, 2002 – Benton Harbor, Mich. – On May 2, the National Day of Prayer, Habitat for Humanity®, Canton, Ohio, chapter honored Whirlpool Corporation by dedicating a newly built house as the Whirlpool home. The new Whirlpool home is the first homeownership experience for Neely Popa and her daughter, named Love.

The Whirlpool home was built as a part of Habitat's More than Houses programs, a campaign to build 100,000 new homes by the year 2005. In early 2000, Whirlpool announced a five year, $25 million commitment to Habitat for Humanity® International by donating a Whirlpool brand refrigerator and freestanding range for homes built in the United States and Canada to support the More Than Houses program. Whirlpool is the largest corporate donor to Habitat.

Representing Whirlpool at the event were Ted Dosch, vice president, Finance, North American Region (NAR), and Jim Witt, contract account manager for that area. "The Greater Canton chapter consistently is recognized as one of the best chapters in the country, evidenced by building the 16th most homes in the US and establishing some of the best relationships with government, corporate and volunteer partners," said Dosch. "This outstanding chapter dedicated the Whirlpool home to recognize the fact that our product donations to their chapter during the past 2 years now equal the value of an entire home."

Terri Bate, executive director, of the Greater Canton Chapter of Habitat presented Whirlpool with a "Golden Hammer Award" during the ceremony in appreciation for the outstanding support that Whirlpool has given to Habitat.

"All Whirlpool people should remain both proud and honored of the Company's commitment to Habitat and to the positive impact it is having on families across North America," said Dosch.

All NAR employees can get involved with Habitat by volunteering their time with a local chapter. Interested employees should contact their local Habitat coordinator for information on how to get involved. "Our company commitment to Habitat is strengthened every time a Whirlpool employee gets personally involved with a local Habitat chapter," added Dosch.
