Whirlpool has expanded its partnership with Habitat for Humanity® by partnering on Women Build projects across the country. With Whirlpool support, crews of women build Habitat houses from foundation to completion. The goal is to promote the involvement of women in the construction of Habitat houses and to encourage women to volunteer in their own community. Imagine what happens when you get Whirlpool Corporation and a crew of women together. The Whirlpool Women Build projects foster a sense of empowerment and build self-esteem. They provide an environment where women can feel comfortable learning construction skills. Women can also learn new repair skills that help them manage their own households. With Whirlpool support, these women volunteers will be building adequate housing and improving a family's well being. Women make up 50 percent of Habitat's volunteer force Yet often because of lack of training, they account for less than 15 percent of work on the construction site. In the US, 47.5 percent of houses for Habitat for Humanity® are built with women heads of household. Part of Whirlpool Corporation's mission is to provide support for women and families. Partnering with Habitat for Humanity® and the Women Build projects and Women Building a Legacy projects will help us achieve that mission. The first Whirlpool - Habitat for Humanity® Women Build house was constructed at the International Builder Show in Dallas, TX, in January 2000. Whirlpool has sponsored and/or helped sponsor over 20 Women Build projects since then. For more information, please visit Women Build, Habitat for Humanity® International. > back |
